PowerTracks 8.0 new features:
1) Multiple levels of Undo. Adjustable from 1 to 100 (Default 5)
(Prior versions of PowerTracks only had one level of undo.)
2) Realtime DirectX effects: 2 Aux effects busses with up to 4
effects per aux bus. Each track's mixer channel strip has Aux1 and
Aux2 level knobs. A Master Effects output bus is available for
each Audio output port, with up to 4 FX per master output bus.
Track Effects Inserts allow effects to be directly inserted into a
track's signal path.
DirectX real-time plugins included with PowerTracks 8:
- PG Dynamics-- Simultaneous Compressor and Expander functions
- PG Echo-Chorus-- Echo and Chorus effects
- PG Flanger-- Flanging effects
- PG Ten Band EQ
- PG Five Band EQ-- Equalizers
- PG Reverb-- Improved Reverb
- PG PeakLimit-- Look-ahead peak limiting and DC blocking
- DirectX plugin groups (up to four chained plugins) can be saved/loaded
along with their settings, so commonly-used effects chains can be easily
recalled into new songs/tracks.
3) Stereo tracks. Previous versions of PowerTracks required the
use of two-separate tracks when recording in stereo or when
importing a stereo file. PT 8.0 now supports stereo tracks in
addition to mono tracks. (note: employed as two mono tracks per stereo track, but appears as completely self-contained stereo to the user)
4) Support for 24bit/96khz file format.
5) Slanted beams in the notation window, which indicates whether a
the general direction of a phrase is upward or downward in pitch.
6) Lyrics window will now operate in Chord Mode when it reaches a
part of the song that doesn't contain lyrics, but which contains
chords. While in Chord Mode, the lyrics window will display the
chords in a row of measures, with each row being equal to the
current bars per line in the Staff Window for the track in which
the big lyrics window is displaying lyrics.
7) Clicking on a lyric or chord in the Big Lyrics Window starts
the song from the location of the lyric or chord.
8) New slider controls and enhanced knobs in the Mixer Window
replace the older scroll-bar volume controls and the older knobs.
9) New Section Text events let you place a text event at any
location on the staff window. These text events won't interfere
with the big lyrics display.
10) The Lead Sheet Window now can display notation for multiple tracks at
the same time.
11) PowerTracks can now print notation with multiple tracks (when
print is activated from within a Lead Sheet window that is currently
displaying multiple tracks).
12) New Audio I/O Latency Delay setting in the Options | Midi Devices
dialog. This will delay the start of audio playback and audio
recording, which is useful if you want to attempt to keep audio
playback/recording in sync with MIDI if you are using a software
based synth for MIDI playback . Normally, you will set this to
match the Synth Output Latency Delay. If you are using a software
based MIDI synth, setting both the Synth Output Latency and Audio
Latency delays will let you play/record audio in sync with the
MIDI.
(NOTE: When recording/playing audio tracks along with a
software-based synth, the stability of the audio/midi sync will
vary depending on the stability and speed of your computer,
operating system, and drivers. We normally recommend using a
hardware chip-based MIDI synth since hardware synths don't have an
output delay, and don't consume much CPU power)
13) Find Button in the Custom File Selection dialog lets you search
for a file within the current folder. This is useful in situations
when a folder has a lot of files and you need to find a
specific file quickly and wish to avoid scrolling through a long
file list.
14) Favorite Folders button in the Custom File Selection dialog
will let you quickly change the current folder by selecting from a
list of "favorite" folders. When using the Custom File Selection
dialog, PowerTracks will remember up to 25 folders from which you had
previously loaded files. When you press the Favorite folders
button, you can quickly select a folder, and the Custom File
Selection dialog then instantly change to the chosen folder without
having to navigate through the Windows folder tree structure.
15) Scrub Mode in Notation Window will play the notes in the
notation as you drag the mouse horizontally over the window. This
can be helpful toward learning difficult parts, or for examining
recorded tracks for glitches or wrong notes.
16) New LED VU meters with improved appearance, clipping indicator,
peak-hold with gradual peak fallback.
17) A new Jazz Notation Font is now included with and supported by
PowerTracks. This font can be used for the Notation Window and
Lead Sheet Window as an alternative to the standard notation font.
The Jazz Font will give your lead sheets the appearance of a Jazz
lead sheet rather than having a 'Classical' appearance.
18) New special Beat Resolution settings in Notation Window Beat
Resolution dialog, which let you display a 5 Beat Group of notes as
either 2+3 or 3+2. Setting the Beat Resolution to 33 will display
a 5 beat group of notes as 2+3, and setting the Beat Resolution to
34 will display it as 3+2. (NOTE: the 5 beat group must contain a
note on each subdivision, and must have no rests)
This also works in auto-detect mode, i.e., when a group of 5 notes
is automatically detected, it will be displayed either as 2+3 or
3+2 depending on the time of the 3rd note in the group.
19) Audio I/O Thread setting in Audio Preferences dialog gives you
three different choices regarding the execution thread for audio playback
and recording. The three choices are: "Main Thread," "Discrete Thread
- Normal Priority," and "Discrete Thread - High Priority." When
set to use the Main Thread, the audio I/O uses the program's main
execution thread rather than multi-tasking. When set to Discrete Thread
it uses a separate execution thread for the audio playback, which makes it less likely
that there will be an audio dropout in certain situations, such as
when small I/O buffer size settings were selected by the user.
20) The Midi Devices dialog and the Audio Drivers dialog both now
have a "Move Selected Devices to Top" button which lets you adjust
the order of the MIDI Output ports or Audio Output Ports. This
means you can now choose which MIDI/Audio Output devices appear as
Port 1, Port 2, etc. within Powertracks, and not be stuck with a
fixed or arbitrary order determined by the Windows operating
system.
21) New Preferences dialog with 'tabbed pages' replaces the
preferences submenu, and allows for easier access to user
preferences.
22) Big Sizeable Piano: The Piano Settings dialog box now has a
"Big Sizeable Piano" checkbox. When this setting is enabled,
PowerTracks will show a bigger piano instead of the smaller piano.
The big piano can be resized by first moving the mouse to the
bottom edge of the piano, and then clicking and dragging the mouse
up or down.
23) Audio track mixer moves (Vol/Pan/Aux1/Aux2) are now recordable,
and you can insert/delete/edit the associated MIDI controller
events in the event list. This makes it easier to automate your
mixes for the audio tracks.
24) Load Scrap can command now load audio tracks into the scrap
buffer, so that they can be pasted into the current song.
25) Chords window displays chords of song in a similar manner to
Band-in-a-Box for easy entry and editing of chord symbols.
Built-in Chord Wizard can be used to automatically detect the
chords of the song.
26) New "Automatically Rechannel track data when saving to a .MID"
setting in the File section of the Preferences dialog. If you
enable this setting, PTW will automatically ask you if you want to
rechannel the track data to the forced MIDI channels in the tracks
view, if the tracks contain MIDI channels different from the forced
channel.
NOTE: By default this is disabled and you will receive a
warning message if you enable it. If you are a MIDI-guitar player
you probably will want to always leave this setting disabled.
Leaving this setting disabled and never enabling it will ensure
that you will always retain the individual channels recorded by
your MIDI guitar.
27) New "Use Existing Channel" checkbox in the Other Staff Options
dialog. When this setting is enabled, and you insert a note in the
Staff Window, PowerTracks will intelligently determine the channel
number of inserted notes instead of using the Channel setting in
the Other Staff Options Dialog. When this setting is disabled, the
Channel field in the Other Staff Options dialog is used.
If this setting is enabled, and you then insert a note in the staff
window, PowerTracks will first try to use the forced MIDI channel
in the Tracks Window to determine the channel of the note you're
inserting. If there is a forced MIDI channel setting for the track
in the Tracks View, then PowerTracks will set the channel of the
note you are currently attempting to insert so that it's channel is
the same as the forced MIDI channel.
If this setting is enabled, but there is no forced MIDI channel
(.i.e., then Ch field in the Tracks Window is set to zero).
PowerTracks will search the track for the nearest MIDI event
which occurs before the time of the note you are currently
attempting to insert. If a MIDI event was found in the track, then
PowerTracks will set the channel of the note you're currently
attempting to insert so that its' MIDI channel matches the MIDI
channel of the event which was found.
If this setting is enabled, but there is no forced channel, and a
MIDI event isn't found in the track, then PowerTracks will use the
Channel field of the Inserted Note Defaults section in the Other
Staff Options dialog.
28) Main toolbar will now displays the amount of megs free and the
percentage of disk space free.
29) 32-bit floating point processing in the audio signal path.
30) Non-RealTime DirectX window can also chain up to four DX plugins.
